It may be more of a logistical issue than anything else. “It’s very difficult to investigate specific sexual positions that can increase fertility,” says Dr Kingsberg. This is partly because there are so many other important factors that affect the chances of conception, such as age and timing of intercourse (having sex during ovulation, for example, increases fertility).

There is no biological explanation for a positive effect on immobilisation.”
Our take: If you have time to lounge around, why not enjoy the afterglow? Supporting yourself on a pillow or putting your legs against the wall, however, makes no difference. “Once the ejaculate enters you, the sperm is already in the cervical mucus, which holds the sperm there for fertilisation,” says Dr Schiffman.
