Stonewall was a Riot: and Other Declarations of Pride

Picture it: New York City, 1969. The cops are known to raid establishments frequented by members of the gay community. However, one fateful night in June, things escalated as police attempted to raid The Stonewall Inn in New York City and the community was tired of being harassed and demonized. Rumour has it that legendary activist and queer icon Marsha P Johnson threw the first brick at the police that night, and it’s undeniable that The Stonewall Riots paved the way for what is now celebrated as Pride in major cities across the globe.
