Coming Soon: Video & Chat Software Updates

We’ve been busy updating our video & chat software, and we’re excited to give you a preview of the newest improvements on the Cam4 site. The two main changes that viewerswill notice are the functional full screen view, and aspect ratio function to make sure you’re getting the clearest resolution for any cam.

Full Screen

While in full screen mode, users and broadcasters will be able to access the chat feed, tipping messages, and private messages without switching back to regular view.

Friend List

Our previous Friend List has been cleaned up, avatars have been added, and most importantly, an option to show only online friends and favourites have been included! You spoke and we listened, now a more functional friend’s list will make your cam4 time even more pleasurable.

Debugging

The new debugging feature allows users to grab a log copy from anywhere on the site, simply right click anywhere on the application and select Copy Logs to Clipboard. This feature will be advancing even more in the future to help sort bugs out faster.

Updates have also been made to the emoticon function, audio controls, and use of avatars in private messages.

It wold be nice if there was some warning of updates. The change in value of the tokens was handled well, but this last update killed my ability to view any cams. I have a PPC G5 Mac tower that works great on almost every other site, but I guess CAM4 is moving on.

      Hey Nashf,

Adobe had decided to drop support for PPC, OSX 10.5 and lower, and Windows XP in their latest versions of Flash. We’re working on a fix so that you’ll be able to use your current computer. Will have an update on the blog by next week. Stay tuned!

    Hello,
Since this new update. I have noticed that the audio is very choppy. Audio was never an issue prior to the new Cam4 update.
Some times it comes through then mute for the most part. I have the latest Firefox (17, updated from 3.6.28 since I thought that was the issue) Flash plugin is the latest one as well.

I then decided to try Internet Explorer. The version I have is IE7. The audio was much better here. The only thing I can think of is that Firefox uses a Flash Plug-in, where as IE uses a Active X Version.

I hope this can help and can fix the Firefox issue.

    Thanks

I agree picture is uneven needs to be widened they have compensated by putting the main chat on the side where if they widened it to where it should be then the image (person) it would look even. I don’t like the way they have done it.

I prefer the smaller screen version or they need to fix the current one, the screen is SO stretched in order to fit in the chat messages on the site, not very professional at all and a turn off, picture is not even at all and the persons image is stretched. Disappointed!

Cant broadcast now with the new update. You can only see my cam if you are a guest. Everyone else it says “offline”. I cannot type in my own chat room. wtf. Some support updates would be nice!

    • WildInsanity says:

hey im having the exact same problem with no help from support. I can see my cam come up as usual but no one else can see it and it doesnt allow me to type in the chat window nor does it allow members to view just says cam offline

    I prefer this new design.

We can’t access with Flash Player 10 anymore, the player takes a lot longer to load now and you didn’t even bother to improve video quality and start using h.264 like every other site has been doing for years

Are the programmers working on having the friends and favorites update as they go on and offline? It would be great to have them indicate as “online” when they are logged on and “broadcasting” when they are broadcasting; updating accordingly as they stop broadcasting and log out. Of course, the userlists adds and removes those that join and exit rooms after all. :)

It would be useful for the userlists to update as broadcaster’s start and stop broadcasting, rather than only knowing who is and was when the room is entered.
