Burning calories while jerking off

Published 11/10/2022

Reading time approx: 4 minutes

In this article, you will learn how many calories are burned when jerking off, and what difference there is between man and woman, and whether masturbation is suitable for a diet.

Does masturbating burn calories?

With every activity and movement, muscles are contracted, which requires energy. Therefore, it is true: when masturbating, calories are consumed.

Basically, the amount of calorie consumption depends on the duration and intensity of masturbation, the age and size of the person and gender.

Women consume about twice as many calories as men. This is mainly due to the increased use of muscle groups. Women are more likely to experience orgasm throughout the body, men more locally on and around the penis.

What is the calorie consumption when jerking?

When jerking, a man consumes about 50 calories (kcal) every 5 minutes. With an average masturbation session of 10 minutes, this results in about 100 kcal. Women consume about 200 kcal during masturbation.

If an additional sex toy is used for masturbation, the calorie consumption decreases slightly, because, for example, a vibrator shortens the time to orgasm and less “manual work” is necessary when used.

Below is a table based on solo sex and calories:

GenderIntensityDurationCalories burned
MaleModerate5 Minutes50 kcal
MaleModerate10 Minutes100 kcal
MaleHigh5 Minutes75 kcal
MaleHigh10 Minutes150 kcal
FemaleModerate5 Minutes100 kcal
FemaleModerate10 Minutes200 kcal
FemaleHigh5 Minutes150 kcal

As you can see, a woman can consume up to 300 kcal in masturbation. The maximum limit for men is about 150 calories (kcal).

Theoretically, even higher energy consumption is possible in masturbation, but the duration and frequency of jerking within a short time window is very limited.

Is masturbation suitable as a diet?

As we have seen, some calories are burned when masturbating. However, a masturbation diet is not particularly promising.

In fact, it would only be worthwhile if you currently give little or no weight. Because then the daily masturbation could increase your calorie turnover a bit.

If you still want to use masturbation as a diet, you should consider it a kind of full-body workout. You have to move while jerking. Don’t think of it as a short and quick gratification, but as a real sport.

To get rid of a cheeseburger from (120 gr.) with a physiological calorific value of 251 kcal, you would have to jerk for about 17 minutes very intensively. As a woman, you can do it in half the time.

In order to lose weight sustainably, however, there are much better methods, including:

  • Strength training
  • HIT-Training
  • Cardio training
  • Jogging
  • Cycling
  • Swimming
  • Omission of sugary foods
  • Fasting or intermittent fasting

Energy expenditure – masturbation vs. sex

During sex, the calorie consumption is usually significantly higher than with solo sex.  This is due to physical activity, which is stronger during sexual intercourse.

It is also interesting that women tend to use less energy during normal sex than men. This is because the man is usually the active part responsible for the movement.

Sex, in contrast to jerking, can be a real full-body program with hundreds of muscles used.

Why is jerking off recommended?

In addition to the light calorie consumption, masturbation has various advantages that you should not do without under any circumstances.

Masturbation is healthy for all sexes, because the effort increases the pulse in the short term, similar to sports. In the medium term, the blood pressure decreases somewhat, and the cardiovascular system is strengthened.

In addition, masturbation makes you happy, because during an orgasm various neurotransmitters or happiness hormones, such as serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin and norepinephrine are expelled.
