Can you get pregnant through anal sex? Is that even possible? Or is this statement just as much of a myth as the assumption that too much sex wears out the vagina? Most women believe that you can never get pregnant through anal sex.

This is unfortunately wrong, because you can also achieve a pregnancy through anal intercourse, even if that sounds totally crazy at first! Although it is extremely rare, it is possible. And why is that, you will learn all about it in this article.

What is anal sex anyway?

Anal sex is sex where the penis penetrates exclusively into the anus instead of the vagina.  The anus is actually just as stretchy as the vagina, even if you should pay attention to the overstretching of the sphincter.

Sexual intercourse can be performed in numerous ways and with different sex positions.

The vagina is often the first option, but anal sex is also a great experience in which one might assume that the seminal fluid does not play a major role.

And this is exactly why very few people use a condom during anal sex.

But you are absolutely wrong. As with sex which is performed vaginally, you should definitely use contraception.

Preferably with a condom, especially when it comes to protection against sexually transmitted diseases.

All good anal intercourse must include good anal sex preparation. In a nutshell, this means: to stretch forward, to feel your way slowly, and to use a lubricant.

The right contraception for anal

If you do not want to get pregnant, you should rely on well-known contraceptives. These include, for example, the pill, the 3-month syringe, or the IUD.

Of course, there are many more, but none of these contraceptives guarantees 100% safety.

And they do not protect against venereal diseases, which also applies to anal sex. During anal sex, you can not only become infected with diseases, but in the worst case even become pregnant.

Getting pregnant during anal sex – pay attention!

As is well known, the vagina and the anus are not far apart. While you usually can’t get pregnant directly once the man injects his sperm into your buttocks, there is one exception.

As soon as the sperm flows from the anus into the vagina of the woman, or runs, it could lead to pregnancy.

Practically pregnant by anal sex, just because the penis has never seen the woman’s vagina from the inside – at least not in this situation.

And unfortunately, this type of unwanted pregnancy often happens because people underestimate anal sex and simply put it in a drawer labeled with the “can’t get pregnant” sticker.

You should know that something like this can sometimes happen, especially if the woman, or the man, completely omits contraceptives. This is by no means certain!

A real case: American woman gets pregnant through anal sex

Pregnant by anal sex?  This was indeed the case with an American woman. A pregnant American woman came to the emergency room one day. She had severe spotting, but it came from the rectum. Dr. Brian Steixner had never seen anything like it.

The urologist from the Jersey Urology Group in Atlantic City was totally surprised and quickly started looking for a solution, because Steixner knew that this was not normal. He had never seen anything like it as a doctor.

There were apparently complications from an operation of the patient, which apparently did not go according to plan. In the woman’s body, a fistula was formed, which connected the uterus and rectum.

And this is exactly the reason why the young woman could become pregnant through anal sex, because her vagina was no longer connected to the uterus, but to her anus.

Fortunately, there was no malformation of the child and everyone came out of the situation unscathed. Their problem could be solved surgically and the child was born with the help of a caesarean section.

Conclusion on pregnancy and anal intercourse

Anal sex is something really intimate. Especially when you experience it together with your partner.  However, you should not do without contraception under any circumstances, especially to prevent venereal diseases.

The probability of getting pregnant through anal is extremely low, but not zero. So the decision is up to you.
