CAM4’S #MCM: Gay Athletes in the Winter Olympics
Openly-gay athletes are absolutely KILLING it in this year’s Winter Olympics! The games have only just begun, and already our American and Canadian crushes are making a statement by winning some medals and throwing shade at USA VP, Mike Pence.
Since the Opening Ceremonies premiered last Friday, Canada’s Eric Radford and USA’s Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy, have made headlines for their speaking out about gay athletes in professional sporting events, and CAM4 is madly crushing on them! (please do a Snapchat takeover for us) On Friday, Kenworthy tweeted a picture of him and Rippon with the caption, “We’re here. We’re queer. Get used to it.” Rippon also criticized Mike Pence for his anti-LGBT views and refuses to meet with him during the games. Rippon also won the bronze medal for his free skate performance this weekend. You’re doing great, sweetie!

Canadian pair skater Eric Radford also became the first openly gay Olympic champion in the history of the Winter Olympics to win gold! With his partner, Meagan Duhamel, the pair took first place in the figure skating team event on Monday. CONGRATS!
This is amazing! I literally feel like I might explode with pride. #Olympics #outandproud #?️? https://t.co/zzNd8ggHhE

The best part of these Winter Olympics is the fact that Canada is hosting their own Pride House – a building in the Olympic Village that acts as a safe space for LGTBQ+ athletes, as well as their family and friends. The Pride House is also the first one to be hosted by a national Olympic Committee, and it’s the first of its kind in Asia.
Congrats to our amazing gay Olympic athletes! We at CAM4 can’t wait to see what you all come up with next! ?
