A new report that has come out is saying that the gay and bi communities are more likely to be victims of revenge porn.<\/p>\n
The study carried out by the Data & Society Research Institute and the Center for Innovative Public Health Research (CiPHR) offers the first national statistics on the prevalence of nonconsensual pornography.<\/p>\n
They report that 4 percent of U.S. Internet users \u2013 or roughly 10.4 million people \u2013 have been threatened with or experienced the posting of explicit images without their consent.<\/p>\n
Other findings of the report include:<\/p>\n
Around 3 percent of respondents have had someone threaten to post nude or nearly nude photos or videos of them online<\/p>\n
Two percent have had someone post an explicit photo or video of them online without their permission<\/p>\n
Fifteen percent of LGB people said that someone had threatened to post an explicit image online<\/p>\n
Seven percent of LGB people had such an image posted online.<\/p>\n
While women are more likely to be threatened with nonconsensual pornography, men and women were equally likely to have photos or videos of themselves actually posted online<\/p>\n
No other organization has researched this data so this is the first national report. Revenge porn can have a devastating impact on victims so we need to know how common this is and who is affected.<\/p>\n
