In their paper \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/bigthink.com\/dollars-and-sex\/would-you-pay-to-have-sex-with-an-android\" target=\"_blank\">Robots, Men and Sex Tourism<\/a>\u201c, Ian Yeoman and Michelle Mars explore how robotic prostitutes could cut back on the instances of STDs, and human trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>These \u201ctourism futurists\u201d predict that by 2050, Amsterdam\u2019s red light district will be filled with android prostitutes, made completely of bacteria-resistent fibre to guarantee no STDs will be transferred between consumers.<\/p>\n<p>The idea is great, less diseases, less children being exploited. But with a $10,000 estimated price tag, I can\u2019t see this being common. Or justified by wives and girlfriends of men.<\/p>\n<p>Possibilities like designing robots to appeal to people with specific wants (like minors) could help slow down the booming sex trade.
