Rule #1 (for Non-Nudists): If you don\u2019t want to see it, just don\u2019t look at it.<\/strong> For the average person, a short walk in any populated area will provide a number of things to not<\/em> look at. A walk in the Castro will likely find you averting your eyes from street garbage, dog poop, graphic \u201cbarebacking\u201d pornography on display in shop windows, very questionable fashion choices, and worse. What\u2019s a little skin in the wind after all that?<\/p>\n

Rule #2 (for Nudists): Allow those who want to avoid looking at you to do so. <\/strong>You have to play your part in the \u201clive and let live\u201d game. That means not heckling hurried, embarrassed-looking passersby.<\/p>\n

Rule #3 (for Non-Nudists): Stop the jokes about how \u201cit\u2019s always the wrong people getting naked.\u201d <\/strong>Someone makes this joke in just about every nudity discussion I\u2019ve heard. It\u2019s not that funny, and it\u2019s offensive. Nudity is not only enjoyable for the young and genetically blessed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rule #4 (for Nudists): Overtly sexual behavior is inappropriate in everyday public spaces. <\/strong>It\u2019s true that San Francisco is cherished as a place of freedom and safety for sexuality adventurers and nonconformists. But it\u2019s also true that even the most liberal society promotes rules and laws for the comfort and safety of its population as a whole. One of society\u2019s rules forbids involving other people, against their will, in a sexual act with you\u2014even through sexual exhibitionism and masturbation. You know who you are, and you\u2019re ruining nudity for everyone.<\/p>\n

Rule #5 (for Non-Nudes): Don\u2019t stare at, mock, or photograph the nudists. <\/strong>It\u2019s not nice, and it just encourages the attention-seeking element.<\/p>\n

Rule #6 (for Nudes): Avoid large crowds. <\/strong>Your right to be nude in public should end several inches from where your penis brushes against my arm.<\/p>\n

Rule #7 (for Nudes): Carry a towel.<\/strong> It\u2019s the polite thing to do. Even the totally relaxed nudists of Finland sit on towels in all-nude settings like saunas; you can certainly follow the same etiquette while using our city\u2019s public seating.\u00a0 Read More<\/a><\/p>\n
