Obviously our CAM4 performers LOVE to wear pink – pink shirts, pink briefs, and even fuzzy pink handcuffs\u00a0? But today is different! We’re wearing pink and we’re showing it off to recognize\u00a0the effects of bullying, whether it be online, in the workplace, or at school. This year, we’re focusing on the effects of bullying and harassment in the LGTBQ+ community. Here are some stats to show you WHY this topic is so important:<\/p>\n

– About one fourth of all students<\/a> from elementary age through high school are the victims of bullying and harassment because of their race, ethnicity, gender, disability, religion or sexual orientation.<\/p>\n

– About 9 out of 10 LGBT teens have reported being bullied at school within the past year because of their sexual orientation, according to the most recent gay bullying statistics<\/a>. Almost half have reported being physically harassed and a\u00a0quarter reported\u00a0they were\u00a0being physically assaulted.<\/p>\n

–\u00a071.4% of LGBT<\/a>\u00a0youth experience major depression disorder,\u00a0caused by any of the following: self-esteem, pressure to conform, minority stress, coming out, family rejection, parenting, relationship formation, and violence<\/p>\n

– A 2013 study by\u00a0GLSEN<\/a> found that nearly half of LGBT youth reported being harassed or bullied online. They were three times more than non-LGBT youth. 27 percent also \u00a0reported feeling unsafe online.<\/p>\n

Sadly,\u00a0these bullying statistics will never go down until the right action is taken and we stand up for those who are being bullied online or in real life. Fortunately, with your help we can inspire each other to take action and show our support for those who have experienced any form of bullying or harrasment!<\/p>\n
