{"id":1051,"date":"2012-07-06T18:39:44","date_gmt":"2012-07-06T18:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gay.blogs.cam4.com\/?p=1051"},"modified":"2012-07-06T18:39:44","modified_gmt":"2012-07-06T18:39:44","slug":"new-call-for-hiv-at-home-testing-kits-in-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cam4.com\/blog-gay\/2012\/07\/new-call-for-hiv-at-home-testing-kits-in-the-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"New call for HIV at-home testing kits in the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>he National AIDS Trust has called for the incorporation of at-home testing kits for HIV into UK strategies following their approval for sale in the US.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, the US Food and Drug Administration approved a rapid, at-home HIV test for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>OraQuick, which will sold over-the-counter, is an oral swab test which gives a result in 20-40 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA said it could potentially \u201cidentify large numbers of previously undiagnosed HIV infections, especially if used by those unlikely to use standard screening methods\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>NAT has called on the UK government to legalise the tests so they can be incorporated into prevention and treatment strategies east of the Atlantic.<\/p>\n<p>Deborah Jack, Chief Executive of NAT, said: \u201cNAT welcomes the lead taken by the US Food and Drug Administration in approving HIV test kits and we call on the UK Government also to legalise and regulate them.
