Is Cam4 moderated?

Cam4 has a staff that monitor the site continuously. If a member of staff needs to speak with you, wherever possible they will contact you via private message rather than in the public room. Publicly or privately their name will always appear in gold and will always be Admin, their messages will be in a colored block. Their name will not appear in the user list.

How do I report abuse?

If you wish to report a problem/abuse you can do this in two ways. Click the name in question and click Report Abuse in the menu that appears or via the contact form here...

How do I chat?

When you enter a broadcasters room you will see the broadcaster live on the left hand side of the screen. On the right hand side of the screen, there is a chat window that you can use to chat with the broadcaster by entering your text message at the bottom of the chat window in the dark grey bar; type your message and hit enter on your keyboard . The broadcasters chat appears in the main chat window in a colored block.

Cam4 Bans

There are three types of ban on Cam4.
  • Administrator Site Ban: An administrator will ban you for looking underage, spamming URLs, capturing video, scamming people or ignoring repeated warnings for other policy abuses such as playing videos or still images. This ban is a complete site ban. You will not be able to access the site again. If you are of age, you can email customer support a copy of your ID to have your account reinstated.
  • Broadcaster Ban: A cam broadcaster may ban you from their room for any reason. This is setup so the broadcaster does not have to deal with abusive people. A broadcaster can click on the person's name in chat and select Moderator Room Options > Ban from the drop down menu. The person will be kicked from the cam and not allowed back into this cam. The offender can still view and chat on other cams on cam4.
  • Chat Bans: If you receive a message that your chat has been disabled this is because there is an automated point system in place. As you come to the site and watch cams, you get positive points. If you are banned by broadcasters, then you get negative points. If you are banned multiple times, then your account is automatically chat banned on the entire Cam4 site. You can still view all the cams but you cannot chat on any of them. The ban on your chat is not permanent. Eventually your chat privileges will come back as you earn positive points.

Tipping on Cam4
What is tipping?

On participating cams, you will see a new tipping panel below the cam window. Tipping is a new feature that we are beta testing. During the beta, everyone can purchase tokens and tip the performers with actual cash as a means of expressing their appreciation for a performance. However during the beta test period, only a select number of performers will be able to receive tips. Once the tip system has proven stable, we will allow all performers on Cam4 to accept tips.

We encourage you to purchase tokens, tip your favorite performers and give us feedback on this new feature. Please ask us any questions, tell us what you want, and tell us what you think. Email your comment to support (click here)

Cam4, as always, will remain free. Cam4 will always be free to view cams, free to chat and free to broadcast your cam. You will not need to purchase tokens or even accept tips. There will also be an option to donate any tips earned to the charity of your choice. Of course, you will also be able to receive cash for the tokens that you earn.

We think this will create new and exciting ways for people to interact as well as encourage more people to use Cam4.

What do I have to do to accept tips?

All cams can accept tokens now. You don't have to do anything but broadcast live. Once you have performed on Cam4, you will automatically have an account setup at Cam4Bucks with the same username and password that you use on Cam4. When you go to Cam4buckshttp://www.cam4bucks.com you can view the amount of tips you earned and cash them out.

How much are token worth and how can I cash them out?

You can cash out tokens for $.01/token. For example 1,000 tokens = $10 USD. You can cash out your tokens and request a payment at Cam4Bucks.

Can I cash out my tokens to Paypal? Can I buy tokens with PayPal?

No. PayPal cannot be used on adult websites. You can purchase tokens with credit cards. You can receive payments for the tokens that you have earned by Check, Wire, and Payoneer. See Cam4Bucks for more information.

I earned tips and today they are gone? Where are they?

Tips that you earn during your broadcasts are shown in the Current Performance report at the bottom right of your broadcast window. Once your broadcast ends, the Current Performance report is zeroed out and these tips are shown in the Performance Summary report. The Performance Summary report will show all the tokens that you have ever earned. Also, after the session is closed your $ earnings are updated on Cam4Bucks

What if people promise something and do not do it once they receive tips?

If this happens and you lose tokens or you see video or any other fraudulent activity, please report it immediately to Cam4 support. Fraudulent performers will be banned and tokens returned to the people tipping them.

How to receive tips on Cam4!

Tips are a great way to earn tokens and money while performing on Cam4. It is up to you as a performer whether you want to perform for free, or whether you want to encourage tipping by setting goals and time limits to drive the action in your performance.
Performance Controls
Setting Goals

Goals allow you to focus your viewers attention on sending tips. For example, your viewers may make special requests, and you can use goals to encourage tipping before you perform those requests.

Be careful with how often and how high you set your goals. A successful performer will learn how to use goals to build excitement, rather than making their viewers feel burdened by constant requests for tips.

To set a goal, enter the number of tokens here. Press the checkmark button to set the goal amount. You can also modify your goal amount in the same way.
To clear a goal, press the X button. You should always clear a goal before you set a new one to clear the goal's progress bar.

Setting Time Limits
Time limits can be used either in combinations with goals, or on their own to help build excitement and urgency into your performance. Here are some examples:
  1. Deadlines on Goals - setting a time limit on your goals encourages your viewers to tip quickly.
  2. Timed Opportunities - try setting a time limit, and asking viewers to send a tip within that time limit in order to receive a private show, or a private message.
  3. Countdown to Performance - let your viewers know when a special event in your performance will start by counting down towards it.
To set a time limit, enter the number of minutes here. Press the checkmark button to set the new time. You can also modify time limits in the same way.
To clear a time limit, press the X button. You should always clear a time limit before setting a new one.
Message Window
Learning to use your message window effectively will help build excitement in your performance. Use this window to tell your viewers about your goals or time limits. This helps new viewers who enter your room know immediately what is going on. Pump up your viewers! Send them encouragement here as well!
Goal Progress
When a goal is set, you can view the progress of the goal as tips are received here.
Tipping Goal
View your current tipping goal here. Pay attention to the amount you use for your goals, and try to tweak it so that your viewers feel they are getting good value.
Tipping Details
Here you can view who the top tipper has been during your performance. Remember to give special attention to your top tipper so that you can encourage competition between your viewers! Everyone like to be the favorite!
Timers
Here you can view the time remaining in any time limit that you have set.
Sound Toggle
By default, Cam4 plays sounds when tips are sent, when goals are reached, and when timers run out. You can toggle the sound off here.
Links
In this area, you can view your Performance History, Current Performance, and this Help page.

How do I have a great web cam show?

In order to create a great webcam show, check all these things:
  • Webcam – make sure you have a high quality webcam. 640x480 or better for resolution. More megapixels allow for better range of color and clarity. Glass lens is better than plastic. Frame rate of 30fps or better is good. Generally the more you spend on your webcam, the better the quality of the video.
  • Focus – some cams come with auto-focus which makes it easier to stay in focus. Others have a small ring on the lenses that you need to turn manually to adjust your focus. Nothing worse than a blurry cam. Make sure your cam is in focus.
  • Lights – Lighting is very important for broadcasting your webcam. A lamp with a shade, placed to one side of your computer monitor should be sufficient. Avoid lights in direct line of sight of the camera. This tends to effect the auto exposure and sometimes color balance of your images. Light pointed at your face may make bright white spots on your face. Lights behind your head, may make dark spots on your face. You should experiment with different wattage bulbs, different angles and types of light to find the best level for your particular setup. Usually more light is better than less light. To learn more check out http://cowboyfrank.net/webcams/HowToLight.htm
  • Sound – Video without sound can be very boring. Make sure you broadcast sound with your show. Many cams now come with a microphone built in, some keyboards & laptops have a microphone. Make sure it’s turned on and that the levels are not set too high or low. Ask people who are watching your cam if the sound is too low or high. Also when you broadcast, mute the window where you are watching yourself. If you don’t then sound will be recorded, played back into the video are watching of yourself, and be recorded again causing a feedback loop and horrible high pitch squeals. Get used to broadcasting without listening to yourself.
  • Content – This is your show so do whatever you like. Just remember to smile and have fun!

Cams are running slow. How come? How can I fix it?

If some cams are slow and others are fast, then the problem is probably with the broadcaster having a slow internet connection. There is little you can do other than watch a different cam. If you are a broadcaster, then you should shut down other programs that you are not using and watch fewer cams in order to save memory and not slow your broadcast. If all cams are running slow there could be a number of issues including
  • Your computer: If you are looking at many cams, running many programs and/or your hard disk has lots of activity, then you could be running out of memory and swapping your memory to hard disk. We suggest that you watch only one webcam at a time, and shut down other programs that you are not using in order to save memory. If you add more memory to your computer, it could speed up dramatically.
  • Our computers: Sometimes we have issues with our servers. Usually this is fixed within the hour when it occurs.
  • The network: If there is internet issues with your provider or our providers, it would impact the speed of all the cams. If other websites that you go to are slow, then it is probably your internet provider that is running slow. If only cam4 is slow, then it is probably our network that has issues. This problem is rare however as we have redundant high speed internet providers.
I Have Problems Viewing or Broadcasting Cams?
  • Internet Connection: Check that your internet connection is fast enough. A slow internet connection will cause the cams to load slowly. It may seem like it will not load but you need to be patient and wait. Closing other programs will improve the speed of the loading, broadcasting, and viewing of cams. Watching only one cam at a time will improve the speed. Not watching cams while broadcasting will improve the speed of your broadcast.
  • Clearing your cache: When the cam software is updated, you may be required to clear your cache and restart the program in order for it to work properly. Usually it will show loading to a specific number like 46%, then stop. If this is happening, it is a cache problem and clearing your cache will solve the problem.
  • Install the latest Flash plug-in: The Adobe flash plug-in can become corrupted for a variety of reasons. It's always a good idea to install the latest version. The latest version can be found here http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
  • Check your firewalls: If you have recently done a windows update, including any security updates, check that the windows firewall hasn't been switched back on as it can stop you from viewing and broadcasting your cam.
  • Latest browser: Upgrade your browser to the latest version. Also a different browser may work better with your computer. Try Internet Explorer & Firefox. You can find the latest versions here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx & http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
Cam4 doesn't work with my Safari/Chrome/Firefox browser.

Cam4 does work with these browsers. The most common cause of problems people experience are add ons that have been installed into the browser. To test this please complete the following.
  1. Disable all addins other than Flash and Java. Cam4 should now work normally
  2. Restore your addins one at a time, testing Cam4 each time. Once the problem occurs again the last plugin that was restored is the cause of the problem.

To locate your addin manager:-
  • Safari: Click the gear icon (top right), Select preferences then extensions, turn on or off in this screen
  • Chrome: Type chrome://plugins/ in the address bar. Enable or disable as required.
  • Firefox: Click Tools then Add ins and dissble from the following screen
Does Ubuntu (linux) work with Cam4?

Cam4.com works with Ubuntu, (and probably other Linux distros too). First, install Ubuntu restricted extras if you haven't done so already, it gives you Flash, Java, DVD playback and more. When you begin broadcasting it fails to show the window that should requests access to your camera, but it's still possible to broadcast. You just need to tell Flash that cam4 can always access your camera, so that it doesn't need to ask. To do this go to the Flash Player Settings Manager There is a small Flash tool there that lets you adjust your settings. Under the Website Privacy settings tab, you'll find a list of websites that have requested access to your cam or mic. Choose content.codelnet.com , and set it to Always allow using the radio button above. This is the domain used by cam4. If it's missing from the list, you need to hit the Broadcast link in cam4 once, then it should be added. After changing the settings, close the broadcast window and open it again, the camera should be working.

I have a firewall on my home PC using IPtables and I need to know what port/protocol to open for accessing cam4?

You need to open the RTMP TCP port of 1935 to access Cam4 webcams through your firewall.

I have problems accessing Cam4 using AOL?

The normal issue here is that the version of Internet Explorer supplied by AOL is customised which can cause problems. We suggest you use a different browser such as Firefox instead.

All I see is a white screen?

If you do not see the webcam picture but instead all you see is a white screen, please try the following: Sometimes other devices on your computer (other cameras, video cards, software) will show up as a camera source to Flash, and you need to specify which one is your active webcam.
  • Right-click your mouse on the white screen (where your webcam picture should show) and click on "Settings".
  • Click on the "webcam" icon to bring up that tab and makes sure that your webcam is selected as the proper camera source.
  • Please make sure no other software like Yahoo, MSN, or other messenger/video applications are open, sometimes they can lock up the camera so other programs (like Flash) can not access the webcam.
  • Please make sure you have the latest version of Flash player installed, re-install if necessary.
  • Please make sure that your webcam is properly installed. This means that in addition to physically connecting your webcam to your computer you must also install the proper drivers to make it work. Usually these drivers came on the CD with your webcam, but otherwise you can Google your webcam type and download drivers for free online.
I can't view cams with my iPad/ Mac?

This is beyond our control. Apple have taken the decision not to support the flash player on their iPad platform. More details on this and other Apple products without flash support should be sought directly from Apple or their support forums.

For other Mac users: Your webcam should work on this site. You may need to right-click (or alternate-click, click the touchpad with two fingers) on the video to bring up the Flash Settings and then in the Webcam tab select a different webcam Flash source, such as 'USB Camera which seems to be the correct selection for Macbook Pro computers.
